Learner Development and Career Guidance Assessment Services
Experienced psychologists manage end-to-end assessments toward informed educational and career choices.
Assessments
Most assessments are on-line, and those that require supervision take place under supervision of a qualified psychologist. Reports provide practical, jargon free, and visual information so that the learners’ strengths and development needs can be understood at a glance. Different assessments are required to address different questions, which can range from problems at school to career guidance. Some of the typical assessments that are used can be found below:
Cognitive Ability
Current and potential level of work, judgment, speed, decision making, strategic ability, generalists vs specialist orientation, creativity, complexity preferences, thinking styles, learning potential, problem solving styles, and other factors relating to professional, executive functioning, decision making, problem solving and type of thinking at work (LOI).
Personality Traits
Warmth, Liveliness, Social Boldness, Forthrightness, Affiliation Orientation, and Receptivity, as well as the 16 primary personality traits that predispose the candidate’s likely behavior in the workplace (15FQ+, JTI).
Aptitude
The Differential Aptitude test (DAT) contains nine aptitude tests and can provide a profile of relative strengths and weaknesses.
Vocational Interests
The Self Directed Search (SDS) questionnaire measures occupational interests, and addresses preferred activity types, competencies, various occupations to determine if they are sufficiently appealing to consider making it a career, and rating of abilities/skills. The 19 Field Interest Inventory (19 FII) measures vocational interests in 19 broad fields of interest. Also Holland's Vocational Interest assessment (VI).
Sometimes, learners experience difficulties that are difficult to make sense of, and which may require specialist assessment for problems in areas such as mathematics, language, attention, motor skills, etcetera. We can assist with custom assessments to pinpoint the problem areas, and to provide parents with the knowledge they need to navigate the way forward.
Trade Aptitude Tests
The TRAT was compiled to assist in the selection of prospective students with a Grade 8 to 10 qualification, for admission to technical institutes and FET colleges as well as to provide an indication of the suitability of a candidate to successfully complete training in a particular trade field. The battery consists of 16 tests of the pencil and paper type, namely: Dexterity, Co-ordination, Patterns, Components, Classification, Assembly, Computations, Inspection, Graphs, Mechanical Insight, Mathematics, Spatial Perception (2-D), Vocabulary (English), Figure Series, Vocabulary (Afrikaans) and Spatial Perception (3-D).
Specialized Assessments Trouble Shooting with Learning Difficulties, e.g.:
VASSI - Determines whether a learner has a problem in Mathematics, in which learning area the problem lies and what cognitive processes need to be stimulated to assist the learner to cope with the necessary mathematics tasks that are expected.
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Test - Identifies ADHD in individuals and estimates severity.
Bayley-III Screening Test - determines if a child is developing at the right pace. Cognitive, language and motor domains are tested.
